A Taste of Autumn in Williamsburg
Nothing can be more comforting to the heart and appetite than the rich and savory flavors that autumn brings. Fresh herbs such as thyme and rosemary fill the imagination as I consider the aroma of home cooked dishes of braised whole chicken, roasted squash, and whipped potatoes. Yet, while anticipating the changing colors of the leaves and the spice of hot apple cider, my palate also waits on local restaurant favorites to transform their menus.
Williamsburg is following suit, and I am ready for it! Here are five restaurants you must try this fall.
The Meatball Shop, 170 Bedford Avenue, Brooklyn
The Meatball Shop / USA Restaurants
Finding its beginnings way back to childhood, The Meatball Shop was dreamed up by two young best friends who worked together delivering food on the Upper East Side. As time went on, their desire to offer New Yorkers fare that satisfied the need for comfort food grew, and this concept would quickly become a favorite around the city and acclaimed as the "best meatballs in the world."
Not only will you find unique and seasonal meatballs here, but you can be assured that this mix-and-match menu is complete with sustainable and natural ingredients where possible. Showcasing seasonal vegetables, fresh salads, hearty sandwiches, and decadent desserts, there is much to discover, and anyone can quickly find their go-to.
For rich harvest flavors, try the Seasonal Risotto Plate, the Chicken Parm Parm Smash sandwich, or if you're feeling creative, create your own plate with your choice of savory meatballs, pasta, and roasted vegetables to choose from!
These meatballs are a perfect way to reminisce about the comforts of rainy autumn days and will warm your appetite.
The Kent Ale House, 51 Kent Avenue, Brooklyn
When it comes to seasonal, fall flavors, you can be assured that The Kent Ale House has you covered.
With an extensive pub-style menu, finding just the right warm comfort food for what you crave shouldn't be too much of a challenge. So, as you escape from the chilly wind, Kent's Short Rib Grilled Cheese, packed with caramelized onions and baby arugula on warm sourdough and a side of Rosemary fries, should warm you right up.
Boasting on offering 24 local craft beers on tap and 30+ varieties in bottles, finding an autumn ale shouldn't be too difficult, either. Try a Montauk Pumpkin Ale or a Spiked Hot Cider for an after-dinner nightcap as you embrace the new season.
The Bedford, 110 Bedford Avenue, Brooklyn
The Bedford/ I Just Want to Eat
A favorite establishment of Williamsburg residents, The Bedford prides itself on offering "classic food with an eclectic fair." So whether you are looking for a fancy night out or if you are just craving a favorite to be delivered to your cozy abode, The Bedford is your place.
The Bedford is currently highlighting autumn offerings such as Pumpkin Gnocchi and the Mozzarella Burger. And for an extra seasonal taste, you can include Crispy Brussel Sprouts seasoned with sea salt and thyme or try a side of savory sweet potato fries. This upscale pub-style restaurant is worth every penny.
DeStefano's Steakhouse, 593 Lorimer Street, Brooklyn
Nothing covers the savory flavors of autumn than a good steakhouse, and DeStefano's Steakhouse is no different. This beloved restaurant brings honor and the sentimental history of Williamsburg. Paying homage to the simple values of faith, family, and friends, DeStefano highlights the sense of unity within the community that Williamsburg offers.
This ala carte menu finds familiarity throughout its offerings with the savory flavors that the harvest season provides. With dishes such as Chicken Cordon Bleu and French Onion Soup, your taste buds will lavish in robust autumn flavors. And for those who crave a delectable prime dry-aged steak, DeStefano's offers five different varieties, all of which pair great with garlic mashed potatoes or sauteed string beans with pancetta. This steakhouse is one that you won't want to miss.
Radegast Hall, 113 North 3rd Street, Brooklyn
Radegast Hall / The Eaten Path
Radegast Hall and Biergarten not only offer quite the list of German beer, but their dinner menu is quite impressive as well. Striving to offer an authentic German dining experience, this dining Haus won't disappoint.
With their cultural fare and full-flavored autumn dishes, you won't want to miss their Butternut Squash Bisque or Bone-in Pork Chop complimented by Fried Brussel Sprouts in an Apple Cider pan sauce. And Radegast's autumn dinner isn't complete without a heaping of strawberry-apple strudel a la mode. You may want to plan a second visit to try their Fall Vegetable Spätzle as well!
